This was meant to be a precursor to “What We Live For”, but ended up turning into its own series as the project progressed.

While researching for the design of “What We Live For”, I came across the definition of the phrase “joie de vivre” according to Dictionary.com: “keen, carefree enjoyment of life” and “delight in being alive”. This phrase perfectly encapsulates some of the best times I had in university. The tone of the song reminded me of Midwestern festivals I attended during that time including one during which I worked in the henna tattooing booth. Along with summer fun, henna is usually associated with Indian weddings, joyous occasions traditionally lasting for several days and involving the whole community. I wanted to capture a little bit of that excitement and delight found in the use of henna to make these iterations.
